07 Aug The Interceptor : the solution for the Ocean Clean Up
According to The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch non-profit organization, only 1% of rivers (=1000 rivers) worldwide are responsible for 80% of the ocean plastic pollution. After gathering this data, they decided to change their course of action and prevent the plastic from ever ending up in the oceans by collecting it while it’s still in the river.
This is why they invented The Interceptor, a machine that blocks the trash, separates it from the water and places it in big containers that are then emptied and recycled. The system sends a notification to the local operators whenever it needs to be emptied and they can check the data at any time through an internet connection.
The Interceptor is solar-powered and can collect on average 50,000kg of plastic a day, or even double this amount in optimal conditions.
